yes this must be unusual to have a fibroid re-diagnosed at the age of 70 years. it sounds as if a second opinion is a good idea. if you have severe pain it would be sensible to have i removed, but if as you say, the fibroid pain is only mild, it may be best to monitor the fibroid with serial scans. read more about fibroids and fibroid pain here

best wishes isabel
please let us know how you get on

I am 70 yrs old and in good health. I work out about 4 a week doing water aerobics, low impact class, cardio and weights. I was having what I thought was a yeast infection and went to GYN thinking she would give me something for it and that would be the end of it. However she wanted to do an ultra-sound and she said my uterine wall was too think and she wanted to do a D & C with Hysteroscopy poylp removal on cervix. She did a biopsy and every thing was benign but when I went for post she said I needed a Hysterectomy. I was really blindsided. She is not my regular Dr. as she was booked up. This Dr. is very young and I don't feel she has enough experience under her belt yet. I asked to see my regular Dr. which they are in the same office. She also confirmed the same diagnosis. However I don't think she would dispute the other Dr. I was also told I have a fibroid the size of a golf ball which I have had for about 30yrs. It was bigger before menopause. I don't have bleeding. I have discomfort sometimes but I can live with it as it doesn't affect anything else. I am going for second opinion on this. I don't know of many women my age having the big H unless there is a problem. The Dr. says she wants to see what is inside of the fibroid. I always thought they were benign. I feel like I am in a catch 22. [email protected]
