Hello ev 1... i am scheduled to have my hysterectomy on July 19, yes I am nervous...but I am going to have total...everything will be removed...fibroids, and ovaries, etc. after reading some of the letters here I am a bit apprehensive about the surgery, but my doctor explained that there is a chance of a cyst developing that can be cancerous..so the best way would be to have them removed...all comments appreciated...Tigger.

Dear Beachbound, I am writing to let you know I was operated two weeks ago and that my surgery went exactly as planned. I was very tired for a week and had a lot of muscle pain in my shoulders because of the laparascopy. That took me by surprise because I was expecting to have pain in my abdomen, not in my shoulders. I talked to a doctor and the pain is normal. I started feeling a lot better about 11 days after the surgery. As I write, I feel fine and the same as before. The sweeling has gone down in my stomach and I do notice a change from before. Like you, I could not get rid of the belly I had even though I exercised. I already look like I have a smaller belly even though there is still a bit of swelling. I'm very excited about it. I am resting a lot and not really doing any chores yet. I get tired easily. I guesse it's my body telling me to take it easy. I hope your surgery went fine on Nov. 20. Let me know how you feel as soon as you are up to it. Take good care of yourself. Fast recovery.

dear beachbound, I hope you feel better since the last time you wrote. Since, I wrote on the forum, I talked to a lot of women about how I felt and what I was going through and surprisingly, I discovered one coworker had gone through the same thing last year...on the exact date I am having my operation. She said she has not felt better in a long time. Recovery is 2 months, but she said she did not feel sick or weak. The best thing is to take it REALLY easy for 2 months and we should be OK. Her wods encouraged me a lot and took away some of my fears. I hope my words will help and I will try to write again after my operation to let you know how I'm doing and to find out how you are. Take care.

I will be undergoing a laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy on November 9. They remove your uterus only (leaving ovaries, tubes and cervix) by laparoscopy (4 small incisions in my abdomen). This summer, my doctor discovered that I had 7 fibroids, so basically my only solution is a hysterectomy. I just turned 40 and I have 3 children. Everybody is telling me that I should be happy because I won't have a period anymore and that my family was complete anyway, that I should look on the bright side. At the moment, that's not how I am feeling and cannot seem to find anyone who can understand me. I feel a loss and I am having great difficulty accepting my situation. I am afraid that I will feel different in my body and maybe somehow less of a woman. On the internet, I find a lot of medical info, but nothing on normal emotional impacts. Can anyone help?

Yes, you can but since you posted this message last year, I'm sure you know that by now. I hope you're doing better.

I had a total abdominal hysterectomy on June 30 keeping both ovaries. My doctor told me she would save them if they were healthy and they were. You need to make your wishes very clear before surgery as to what you want to keep. You can also keep or take out the cervix. There is a name for it but I don't know it. Go to Hystersisters.com for a world of free info! You can post questions for free. Good luck to you.Text

Can you get a hysterectomy without having your ovaries removed? And does that surgery go by a different name. I have uterine fibroids and may need a hysterectomy but I don't want my ovaries removed.
